Playbox Theatre Policy on Political and Religious Neutrality

Purpose

At Playbox Theatre, we are dedicated to fostering creativity, inclusivity, and a positive environment for young people. To maintain our focus on the arts and the development of our participants, we uphold a policy of political and religious neutrality.

Policy Statement

Playbox Theatre is an apolitical organisation. We believe that the arts should be a space for all young people, regardless of their personal beliefs or affiliations. Therefore, we will not engage in, promote, or comment on political or religious issues, nor will we allow such discussions to permeate our programs and activities.

Use of Stimuli

While we maintain a neutral stance, we recognise the value of exploring political and social themes as part of our training programs. Our workshops may occasionally incorporate current events or social issues as stimuli for creative exploration. In doing so, we aim to:

  1. Encourage critical thinking and articulate expression.
  2. Help participants understand and appreciate a range of perspectives.
  3. Foster respectful dialogue and collaborative creativity.

These discussions will be framed within a context of artistic development, ensuring that our focus remains on enhancing the participants’ skills rather than advocating for specific viewpoints.

Implementation

  1. Respectful Environment: We encourage all participants, staff, and stakeholders to create a respectful environment where diverse perspectives can coexist without becoming divisive.
  2. Focus on the Arts: Our programming and discussions will remain centred on artistic expression and development. We will direct our energies towards enhancing the creative skills of our participants.
  3. Communication: Any communication from Playbox Theatre—whether through social media, public statements, or internal discussions—will reflect our commitment to neutrality.
  4. Training and Awareness: Staff and volunteers will receive training on maintaining this policy in their interactions with participants and the public.

Conclusion

By adhering to this policy, Playbox Theatre aims to create a welcoming space for all young people to express themselves through the arts, free from the influences of political or religious discourse, while also providing opportunities to engage with a variety of ideas in a constructive and artistic manner.
