Shakespeare’s lost voices reveal what happens in the corridors of power in a new walkthrough experience by Shakespeare Young Company.
February 10th 2022
At a time of political dispute, we await the outcome of ‘party-gate’ enquiries and police investigations. Shakespeare knew well the world of power and monarchy. Drawing on a selection of his history plays SYC invite audiences to descend into the ancient crypt of St Mary’s Church, Warwick on Thursday March 3rd at 6.30pm and 7.30pm to meet The Queens, the female characters on the margins of history, as they reveal their struggles in the corridors of power. For one evening these women reveal whether they are less cruel than men, less ambitious and less warriorlike. Probably not, as behind the scenes of the Kings in power we encounter women, of different ages, who dream of being Queen, remaining so or of being the mother of future Kings.
Audience members will attend the dark court of Queens Isabel, Margaret, Elizabeth, Anne and Katherine with others who contribute to their stories.
THE QUEENS has been created for a space under the Church that was built before the stories of Shakespeare were written. For one night these women tell their versions of history.
Tickets to descend into the vault are available at www.playboxtheatre.com
