On Saturday December 3rd at 5.30pm, Titania, Oberon and members of the cast of the new Playbox Theatre production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream switch on the Christmas lights at Warwick’s Dream Factory for a season of warmth, colour, magic and surprises in the true Playbox tradition.
Since opening the Dream Factory in 1999, Christmas has been the most important and exciting time of the year. A time when families, friends and past and present members, gather in celebration.
This year’s main stage production is Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to launch our Folio 2023 event programme to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s first folio collection of plays.
Dream is for all the family, from the youngest to the most senior as it takes audiences on an enchanted journey from the Royal Court of Athens into the transformation of a summer night in a forest of dreams, love, adventure and magic.
Dream brings magic and wonder to its stage as Founding Director Mary King directs a cast of 45 young actors. She says, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream is my favourite of all Shakespeare’s plays and a wonderful introduction to Shakespeare for young people. Christmas is, for many children, a first encounter with theatre – so I am determined that they will feel the joy and wonder of live theatre.’
The cast is led by Esme Fleeman as Oberon, Freya Phillips as Titania, Emily Pepper as Puck and Jennie Beattie as Bottom alongside 40 young people from across the wider region
Design is by Commedia with lighting design by Richard Cooper.
Fuelled by the power of magic, the hope of youth and belief in the impossible, DREAM invites everyone to join a Christmas world of colour, wonder and infinite possibilities.
