Warwick 18th October
From November 4th – 6th 2021, Playbox Theatre continue exploring The Greeks with a contemporary update of Sophocles ANTIGONE, at The Dream Factory, Warwick.
The ancient story of the teenage girl who dares to stand against the state. The daughter of King Oedipus brings the curse of her family to the battle-torn society of Thebes daring to stand for freedom rights and individuality. It is a strong and very immediate drama, with young people taking a chance to make things right, standing up for their values and their beliefs as individuals.
Playbox’s production locates the world of the play to a contemporary, European Society in the aftermath of civil war with Antigone determined not to repeat mistakes of the past but break the painful cycle of history. This is her fight.
Mery Sutherland and Ottilie Lampitt plays sisters Antigone and Ismene with Corin Alford as Creon, Rose Agnew as Haemon, Eilis Boden as Teiresias and Paige Cooper as Queen Eurydice.
Antigone is directed by Stewart McGill with technical direction by Richard Cooper.
Antigone is the latest in the ongoing cycle of Greek dramas which builds towards the epic trilogy Oresteia in 2022.
