Antigone continued Playbox Theatre’s explorations into Greek Theatre, following The Dancing Bear & The Hunter In The Stars earlier in the season. Stewart McGill’s staging was fast-paced and highly contemporary, with live relay and use of film throughout the production. The tragedy unfolds as Antigone, daughter of the cursed Oedipus, unlawfully buries her brother’s corpse, and is condemned to death by her ruling uncle, Creon.
Who would have thought that a Greek tragedy performed by young people would be a complete sell-out with not a seat to be had? Skilled, powerful and contemporary?
