West End Matilda heads Playbox’s Wizard of Oz
Playbox Theatre today announce that Tasha Chapple, who starred as Matilda in the RSC’s West End production from 2014 to 2015, will play the iconic role of Dorothy Gale in the theatre’s all-new production of the world’s most loved musical The Wizard of Oz.
Tasha joined Playbox Theatre aged 3 and was put forward to audition for Matilda by Playbox Agency Director, Juliet Vankay. Tasha, who lives with her family in Stratford-upon-Avon played Dahl’s revolutionary role for a year at London’s Cambridge Theatre. She now returns to Playbox Theatre to tackle the smart, brave, compassionate and selfless heroine Dorothy, originated in the MGM musical by a young Judy Garland.
Mary King directs The Wizard of Oz and said today, “I am thrilled to have Tasha as our Dorothy in this all-new production. Playbox Theatre was both proud and thrilled when she took on Matilda, so it is doubly rewarding to have her back in the company and playing this role.”
Rehearsals started in Warwick this week with Tasha and a company of over 70 young actors, singers and dancers from across the region attending the acclaimed young people’s theatre.
