Shakespeare Young Company
Shakespeare Young Company is now in its 9th year at Playbox Theatre, bringing a specialised focus for young people interested in developing their confidence, skills and techniques to perform in the plays of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
When accepted into SYC, the ensemble train in the studio, participate in the Shakespeare Lab, create productions for a variety of theatre, outdoor venues and tours. In 2014 four SYC original productions played in the USA at Santa Monica Playhouse.
SYC is divided into a series of ensembles; Pucks provides a thorough introduction to younger actors followed by a graduation into the SYC companies.
In 2016, SYC and Playbox Theatre combined for a large scale event to celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary at both The Dream Factory and St Mary’s Church, Warwick.
In 2017 SYC will create a major new A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Shakespeare’s Lost Children to tour.
Admission to SYC is by audition. In order to become a member of this company, you must additionally train weekly in one of our acting workshops, ensuring that all participants engage with theatre skills and practitioners from across the arts spectrum.
Pucks offers a rigorous and rewarding introduction to Elizabethan & Jacobean dramas, text in performance and movement styles in a continuous exploration of the plays for audiences today.
SYC is an opportunity for members of our acting courses to undertake additional specialised training. Young people interested in developing their confidence, skills and techniques to perform in the plays of Shakespeare and his contemporaries are able to audition to join this ensemble.
