Blue Riders Ensemble at Playbox Theatre – The Studio

This December, Blue Riders bring a thrilling new twist to Chekhov’s classic farce in The Proposal Variations, a riotous, expressionist reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s beloved one-act play. Taking to the intimate Studio at Playbox Theatre, the ensemble will plunge Chekhov’s comedy of manners into a whirlwind of movement, colour, and theatrical invention.

Chekhov’s sharp satire on the absurdities of the Russian landowning class is turned upside down as eight dynamic performers swap, switch, and transform into the quirky characters of the original play. A marriage proposal, meant to be the most romantic of moments, quickly devolves into a hilarious and chaotic territorial struggle. The outcome? Who can say — this bold, inventive piece promises to surprise at every turn.
