Edward’s Boys – The Woman In The Moon
A comedy, written by John Lyly and 1500 and originally performed by one of the leading boys companies ‘Paul’s Boys’, mixing astrology, myth, magic and farce, this extraordinary dream play is a perfect companion piece to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Edward’s Boys have quickly established themselves as one of the hottest tickets around. The ensemble is the brainchild of Perry Mills, Deputy Head at King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon, which is the school Shakespeare himself probably attended.
The impetus for this work grew initially out of the school’s involvement with Michael Wood’s BBC series In Search of Shakespeare and subsequent workshops on the Elizabethan boy Player.
The issue of gender and cross-dressing has inevitably attracted most attention, though the boys themselves repeatedly claim that playing women is no different from any other type of acting.
CV34 residents can obtain £1 tickets thanks to the superb support from St Mary’s Hall Trust, Warwick. Postal address required on booking. CV34 tickets only available direct from Playbox Theatre’s Box Office, subject to availability.
