Job Description

We are seeking someone with a passion for catering and an enjoyment of working in a bustling and busy environment, at the heart of our young people’s theatre. The Café Team Leader will be committed to Playbox’s core ethos of elevating the lives and experiences of young people in Warwickshire and beyond.

Job Title: Café Team Leader

Location: Playbox Theatre, Stratford Road, Warwick

Hours: 37 hours per week, including several evenings and weekend shifts

About Us

Playbox Theatre is a lively venue dedicated to offering excellent creative experiences for young people and their families. Our theatre café is at the heart of the building and forms the central gathering point for members, actors, audiences and guests. We are looking for a highly capable, enthusiastic, hands-on Café Team Leader to join our team, overseeing daily café operations and ensuring a high standard of service. This role combines both leadership and practical café duties, allowing you to actively contribute to a busy environment while also taking responsibility for key operational functions.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Staff Scheduling: Plan and manage staff shifts to ensure the café is adequately staffed during peak hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Stock Monitoring and Ordering: Oversee stock levels, monitor product usage, and place orders with suppliers to maintain inventory and ensure smooth café operations.
  • Income and Expenditure Monitoring: Track daily sales and manage expenses, ensuring the café stays within budget and remains profitable.
  • Risk Assessments & Compliance: Conduct regular risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment and that health and safety standards are followed, including adherence to food hygiene protocols.
  • Hygiene Standards: Ensure that the café maintains high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, in line with industry regulations.
  • Customer Service & Hands-On Support: Serve customers, prepare food and drinks, undertake baking to a high standard, and provide excellent service during peak times, working alongside your team to ensure a smooth and efficient café operation.

About You

  • A positive and energetic attitude, with a passion for delivering excellent customer service.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead by example in a busy environment.
  • Experience in a café or similar setting, with a focus on practical food preparation and service.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to handle stock management and ordering.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of a flexible, collaborative team.
  • A good understanding of hygiene standards, risk assessments, and health and safety compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure, and to maintain a calm and positive manner at all times.

Job type: Full-time

Salary: £25,000 per annum
