Café Assistant

Reporting to the Café Manager in our busy theatre café at the Dream Factory. You will have the following tasks and responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation o food as required in our seasonally changing menu.
  • To serve food and beverages in an engaging and friendly manner.
  • To supervise junior and occasional staff and maintain the high standards required by this prestigious young people’s theatre.
  • To undertake regular café duties for example fridge and food stock taking, ensuring presentation is consistent and adheres to our standard of display.  Regular table clearance and ensuring that tables front of house are presentable and ready for customers.

Skills required:

  • Basic numeracy
  • A friendly, engaging personality to welcome our many and diverse guests at all times.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • To maintain, by example, the friendly and welcoming ethos of Playbox Theatre.
  • Basic food hygiene certificate.

Salary: £8 per hour

Hours: 16 hours per week, will be required to work some weekends and evenings

Teachers of Theatre Arts & Techniques

Playbox Theatre at The Dream Factory, Warwick with its strategic satellite studios in the region has built a superb reputation over 32 years for its creative work with children and young people. We now seek a vital new member for our CREATIVE TEAM to maintain the company’s vision and objectives in leading and developing theatre and allied arts workshops/programmes for the company.

The role is unique and the person we seek will be devoted to the company mission and maintain the high standards of delivery to ages 3-20.

The post requires hard work, high level of responsibility and commitment, the ability to plan and think quickly, have lots of fun, dare to be different and meet each challenge that comes your way.

Within your role you will:

  • Lead and stimulate theatre practical training workshops with children and young people of all ages at Playbox Theatre’s main base at The Dream Factory, Warwick and selected satellite centres in the region.
  • Head our satellite centre in Kenilworth and take responsibility for executing the programme.
  • Undertake designated out-of-school drama programmes at several schools in the region.
  • Develop and execute schools workshops from time to time either related to our production programme at Playbox Theatre or tailored schools curriculum in liaison with subject teacher and host school.
  • Be an advocate and voice for the importance of young people’s artistic forms of expression and, by example, demonstrate the professionalism and high standards exemplified by this company.

Opportunities exist to direct your own productions and projects in the studio theatre with further possibilities to direct one of Playbox Theatre’s main house productions annually.

You must have specialist knowledge on one or more of the following areas:

  • Voice
  • Movement
  • Theatre Techniques
  • Acting
  • Improvisation
  • Directing
  • Contemporary Drama
  • Classical Drama
  • Developing Theatre for Children and Young People

You will need to keep up to speed with current artistic developments in multi forms of arts disciplines and suggest appropriate material for Playbox Theatre usage.

Ideally you will have:

  • Trained to a high level as artist, performer, teacher of theatre, able to draw on your resources.
  • A vibrant personality that our young members will engage with, learn from, experiment and take risks with and always place the needs of the young person first.
  • Availability to schedule at evenings, weekends, school holidays and daytime sessions and plan accordingly.
  • The ability to inspire and motivate your groups to develop their work and adopt a strong work ethic.
  • Guide and support young people in their formative years seeking to express themselves and their world through creativity.
  • Able to coordinate and manage ‘team assistants’ designated to support you and help you in your role.

VIP Interactive Party & Special Events Host/Creative Leader

Playbox Theatre at The Dream Factory, Warwick has built a superb reputation for hosting interactive parties and special events for children, their guests and families. The post requires a special sort of person… lively, vibrant, imaginative, well presented and passionate about the way theatre can turn a party into a unique and memorable experience. Our parties are much more than simply a ‘a party’. It’s also you, your personality, your talent and your ability to improvise (often in role) to take guests on a journey. Our parties create wonderment and immerse guests in a form of event that blends theatre with immersive encounters with character and theme.

The post requires hard work, high level of responsibility and commitment, the ability to plan and think quickly, have lots of fun, dare to be different and to meet each challenge that comes your way.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A range of experience as performer, actor or artist, able to draw on resources.
  • A vibrant personality that our guests will engage with, enjoy the company and a little sorry to say ‘goodbye’ when the time comes.
  • Available to schedule at weekends and plan accordingly.
  • Able to co-ordinate and manage assistants designated to support and help you in your role as Host Creative.

Our VIP party events take place in our special studios, often thematically designed to enhance the event. Being our Host, you will bring to Playbox Theatre your personality as a resourceful leader, able to guide and direct the party progress. You will enjoy collaboration with the Artistic Director and show an acute eye for detail, maintaining high standards at all times.

Customer Relations (Part Time)

Playbox Theatre seek a lively, enthusiastic person with high levels of commitment and work ethic to join their Customer Relations Team.

Reporting to the Customer Relations Team Manager, responsibilities will include:

  • To act as a point of information on all matters relating to Playbox Theatre at The Dream Factory.
  • To undertake sales and Box Office duties.
  • To be in attendance and act as point of information during Playbox Theatre sessions and productions, according to rota planning.
  • To assist on party set up when needed.
  • To undertake a range of office administrative duties including handling a high volume of emails enquiries, receiving and making telephone calls, typing of documents, inputting data, filing and photocopying.
  • To be a friendly and supporting face of Playbox Theatre, able to deal with a host of public enquiries – some simple, some complex – all with a calm and understanding demeanor.
  • To liaise with the Membership Manager when dealing with Membership enquiries.
  • To be superbly resourceful at all times.

You should have the following skills:

  • Enjoy a role that involves using communication skills to a high standard.
  • A willingness for flexibility outside of regular hours where needed.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and be generally IT literate.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and timekeeping.
  • Be prepared to approach the general public and interact with confidence.
  • A willingness to undergo First Aid training.

It is expected that the post holder will live in the Warwickshire region where Playbox Theatre is based.

Hours

Average 32 hours per week, starting at £8.00 per hour.

Regular days during season time will be Tues-Fri (12-9pm) and Thurs (12-5pm).

Mon-Fri (daytime) during school holidays 10am-5pm. The successful candidate will be required to work occasional weekend dates when necessary.

Party Administrator (Part Time)

Playbox Theatre Performance and Interactive Parties have become a much talked about and enormously popular aspect of our work. The excitement of creating theatre for a birthday or special event in our unique studio has never been more popular. Interactive parties are available every Saturday afternoon and Sunday mornings and afternoons.

Playbox Theatre seek an enthusiastic, vibrant individual to take on administration and hosting of our theatre parties.

Reporting in the first instance to the Artistic Director, responsibilities will include:

  • To administrate Playbox party enquiries and bookings from start to finish, including managing payment schedules.
  • Book Party staff for events as necessary.
  • To prepare party bags and additional extras in advance of events.
  • To set up and take down parties – this will include set up of the party studios (tables, chairs, blowing up balloons etc) and to ensure they are spotless before and after each event.
  • To greet party families and guests and tend to their needs throughout the event.
  • To take on building opening and closing duties as necessary.
  • To monitor party supplies and place orders for new stock as necessary.
  • To liaise with designer over the creation of party invitations.
  • To liaise with Café team over food requirements and oversee timely preparation and service on the day of the event.
  • To use quiet periods to investigate opportunities to further market Playbox parties.

The ideal candidate will be versatile, have an ability to work independently using their own initiative, as well as being able to communicate well with the team. Experience in customer relations, working in a family friendly environment and event hosting would be desirable. You should also be IT literate and have a great telephone manner.

It is expected that the post holder will live in the Warwickshire region where Playbox Theatre is based.

Hours

Minimum of 8 hours per week, starting at £8 per hour.

Regular days will be Tuesdays and Fridays 10am-2pm.

Saturdays 1-6pm and Sundays 9am-6pm as required.
