Playbox Theatre Futures & playing your part
In 1998 Playbox Theatre’s National Lottery bid was successful and we created what has became a model of excellence for arts with children and young people. The Dream Factory remains unique in being the creative home for thousands of young people to develop their skills, talent and confidence.
Over the years Playbox Theatre has risen to many challenges to ensure our theatre remains at the forefront of the arts with the young. With support from Warwick District Council, trusts, foundations and the Friends of Playbox, we adopt an active self-help fundraising programme.
Futures is our biggest fundraising programme since 1998 and represents the urgent need to address access to The Dream Factory, development of new studios and a complete technical infrastructure renewal.
It is a £200,000 programme and we need your support to help us ensure long-term improvements for everyone. Every gift helps and every initiative is valued. We hope that you will partner with us in our quest to ensure that our visionary development programme, commencing in Spring 2019, can achieve its aims to celebrate this unique young people’s theatre right here in the heart of Warwickshire.
Our thanks for all your help.

Film & Digital Studio
When The Dream Factory opened in 1999 we did not anticipate the enormous role digital media would play in the creative lives of young people. So many Playbox Theatre members now express their creativity through digital usage. Our new studio will be attained by relocating the Playbox administrative team and making a fully equipped space for resourcing all film and digital needs. Our aim is to open the studio in 2019.
Front of House
We plan to reflect the world of young people today with digital visuals, new signage and improved wifi. The new look will replace the current retro and rather tired furnishings, as well as developing our cafe to provide an all-day service from breakfast through to supper. Completion by 2019.
In 1999 the technical capability of The Dream Factory was state of the art. Lighting, sound and projection now fail us and many units are now irreplaceable. Our vision is to fully upgrade our technical capability with effective, eco-friendly, multifunctional equipment for use by our technical creatives, members and visiting artists. The £100,000 fit out will ensure that our productions and potential future work can adapt and benefit from the developments made in technical theatre since 1999. Completion by Summer 2019.
Landscape and Signage
Our new entrance from Stratford Road and plans for improved access will at last allow us to present this young people’s complex as a centre of pride and uniqueness in Warwickshire. Improved signage from Stratford Road, soft landscaping on entry and enhanced exterior lighting. Completed by Summer 2019.
Completion dates are aspirational and subject to successful fundraising.
Your support helps us to:
• Develop a new Film & Digital Media Studio for our members to explore their creativity in a new era.
• Develop our Front of House areas to reflect the excitement and energy of our diverse young people, their families, guests and audiences in an all-day operation from breakfast to supper.
• Replace our original technical infrastructure and install the latest, most efficient, eco-friendly lighting, sound and digital equipment.
• Ensure The Dream Factory is fit for purpose as a model of uniqueness and excellence within the arts and for young people.
